I’m the kind of person who will try out a million beauty products before I find something I absolutely love, so it’s safe to say I’ve experienced my fair share of products! Funny enough, more often than not the products that end up being my favorite are drug store brands! Not going to lie, I love me some Lorac eyeshadow and Too Faced mascara, but I can’t afford to buy those items on the regular (#BallinOnABudget). Favorite products have come and gone throughout the years, but these 6 have stayed with me the whole way! Maybe you’ve heard of all of them, or maybe you’ve heard of none of them- either way I hope you discover some of your new favorite products in mine!
“WOW” is all I have to say about this stuff. When I developed bad acne in college I got put on topical treatments that dried the heck out of my skin. I was so self-conscious about my dry skin and every moisturizer I tried didn’t seem to ease the dry skin crisis I was experiencing. It wasn’t until I found Vanicream that the clouds opened up and my skin sang for joy! At around $13.00 you get a lot of bang for your buck- I bought my first jar of Vanicream back in the Spring of 2014 and I’m still using it today! I use it twice a day- after I wash my face when I wake up in the morning and then again in the evening before bed! After every use my skin is left feeling extremely moisturized and happy! Now, I will warn you that it is on thicker side, but I never feel like it’s caked on my face- plus a little goes a long way, so you won’t need to use huge globs to feel moisturized!
Do you remember when wet looking scrunched hair was a thing back in the day? This is the product t I used to achieve that look, but it still comes in handy even in 2017! Instead of using it fresh out of the shower like I used to, I wash my hair at night, brush it, put it up in a messy bun and sleep on it. When I get up the next morning I take my hair out of the messy bun and spray my hair all over with the curl shape gel. After I spray it I put it back up in a messy bun while I do my makeup and get in my outfit for the day. After my makeup and outfit are ready to go, I then take my hair out the messy bun, shake my head upside down and spray the heck out of my hair with more shape gel using my hands to scrunch my hair. Once I flip my head back over it looks like a curly mess, so I tame and style it with my fingers, then finish the look with hairspray! The cool thing about doing my hair like this, is that it will relax throughout the day making the curls look more beachy as the day goes on! To clarify, I have fine hair and a lot of it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t try it if you don’t have the same hair texture as me! I’ve seen many of my friends, with all different types of hair textures, do similar techniques and it always ends up looking fabulous!
If I could write a love letter to this foundation, I would. I’m a simple girl, especially when it comes to getting ready in the morning for work. Although I don’t mind focusing on perfecting my makeup and using lots of different products for special occasions, when it comes to getting ready for work I like to keep it as simple as possible and that’s why I love this foundation! It fuses primer, foundation and concealer all in one! Think it’s too good to be true? Nope, it really is that amazing! I used it when I had bad acne as well as now, when my acne has cleared and it still gets the job done! It’s a full coverage foundation that makes you look airbrushed without making you feel like you have 100 layers of makeup on!
I feel like I’m going to make some enemies when I write about this mascara, but it seriously is the best mascara ever. I use it every single day and I’m never disappointed. I’ve experienced my fair share of mascaras and although there are high-end mascaras I love, I always come back to this one. Reason being, not only does it make my lashes look fantastic, long, and full but it also stays on when you need it to and washes off easily when you’re ready to take it off. One of my pet peeves is when mascara sticks around and you find it hanging on to your lashes for dear life a few days later- this mascara doesn’t do that so it’s an A+ in my book! Also, it’s extra fun because within the last year or so Loreal has come out with colored versions of this mascara formula- I have the cobalt blue and it’s the perfect touch of subtle color to either a day or evening look!
Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post I’ve tried my fair share of products, both high end and drug store- that includes what seems like 100’s of setting sprays. While it seems like everyone goes gaga over the Urban Decay setting sprays, I’m going crazy over this one from NYX! Since I have normal skin (neither dry or oily), I like to have a dewy glow after I finish my makeup which makes this product perfect for me. Is looking dewy not your thing? No worries! If you prefer a matte look, NYX has you covered with their matte setting spray- check it out here!
If you wear makeup you need to own these brushes. This whole set goes for a little over $150, but it’s 100% worth the money! Trust me, this is coming from someone who finds it hard to spend $10 on a Panera Bread salad. I’ve had my Sigma Brushes since 2014 and almost 4 years later they still look like I bought them yesterday! Obviously you may not need all 12 brushes that come in this set so buying them individually is an option too- I have 5 that I use everyday and it’s worked out perfect for my makeup needs! I also have the Sigma Brush Cleaning Glove, but if spending almost $40 on a glove isn’t your thing, a dog grooming glove like this one will work the same! 🙂
That’s all she wrote…
